RE-USABLE LEARNING OBJECTS

A re-usable Learning Object (RLO) is a small, self-contained lesson about any subject you desire to teach. It consists of HTML pages made from Dreamweaver templates. There are nineteen templates for a variety of expository pages and quiz questions. There is also a software tool for assembling the pages into an RLO. The quiz is optional, as are a grade report and question-by-question feedback.

An RLO is "re-usable" in two senses:

  • It serves as a drop-in lesson — easy to host and link to from anywhere — that you can add to any curriculum.
  • You can define more than one audience and write alternative versions of any of the pages for the different audiences. For example, if you want to make a lesson for adults about how to write a good letter, for the pages containing examples you can give alternative versions that will be of interest to different age- or ethnic groups.

RE-USABLE LEARNING OBJECTS were developed under grants from the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), to two institutions: the Center for Spirituality and Healing at the University of Minnesota; and Northwestern Health Sciences University.
